General description of duties:

The system administrator seeks to ensure that the up time, performance, resources, and security of the computers he or she manages meet the needs of the users, without exceeding the budget. To meet these needs, a system administrator may acquire, install, or upgrade computer components and software; provide routine automation; maintain security policies; troubleshoot; train or supervise staff; or offer technical support for projects.



  • Management of directory servers (Microsoft and others)
  • Management and support of Windows and Linux workstations
  • Management of software and hardware assets (including accurate inventory)
  • Support of phone systems
  • Support and management of email systems
  • Management and support of networks, local and remote
  • Responsibility for security
  • System performance tuning
  • Support of office, data center and client networks


  • Must have minimum 2 years full-time position experience in IT support or system administration
  • Minimum 2 years of formal education in the field, specializing in IT management
  • Must have deep understanding of complex networks
  • Advanced knowledge of DNS and IP routing principals
  • Have an understanding and experience working with Linux based Servers and Workstations
  • Great communication skills and confidence in the field
  • Advanced ability to work in all Linux environments
  • Strong ability to acquire new knowledge/research and learn new technologies
  • Must be able to travel within GTA (valid driver’s license and personal vehicle is required) Required Knowledge Candidate must be familiar with the following protocols :

Beneficial Skills:

  • Linux shell scripting
  • LAMP stack management
